We're the Music Boosters!

In the 2018 - 2019 school year, the White Bear Lake School District music program engaged more than 1900 students from grades 5 - 12 in Band, Choir and Orchestra.  That’s a lot of student musicians and singers! The Music Boosters were formed to support this growing music program and to be a resource to its Directors, students, fans and the larger White Bear Lake community through fundraising and volunteer activities.

Booster funds provide grants to the Directors to supplement music enrichment opportunities, such as guest performances, scholarships for all-state honor program fees, new music and other areas of need identified by the Directors. In 2018 the Boosters also created a scholarship fund to provide tuition reimbursement for a graduating senior demonstrating exceptional dedication to music performance. The recipient is selected by South Campus Scholarship Committee members.  Applications are submitted through the Common Application located on the WBLAHS – South Campus website and follow the same deadline as other District scholarships. Good luck to all the talented applicants!

Commitment to Equity

We at the WBL Music Boosters recognize equity disparities among our student body, and are committed to the following White Bear Lake Area Schools equity statement:

To nurture the whole student, we disrupt systemic inequities by recognizing, honoring and embracing all cultures with humility and respect.

ABOUT THE MUSIC PROGRAMS OF WHITE BEAR LAKE SCHOOLS:

Our Directors offer 5 choirs and 6 bands at the High School level during the school day.

The middle schools also have strong music programs. The bands and choirs perform by grade level in middle school so there are six bands and choirs between Central and Sunrise Park middle schools.

Not to be outdone, the Orchestra program continues to grow. Our Orchestra program is currently available for grades 5 – 7 and was able to create an honors orchestra for advanced playing students!  The orchestra will continue to add a grade level over the coming years until it is a full 5-12th grade program.

Outside the school day the Directors provide additional music opportunities for the students.

  • The 6 high school bands combine to create a 300 member pep band to support varsity sports programs in the District.

  • There are 7 jazz bands and 5 choirs in grades 7 – 12 that gather before and after school to hone their music skills.

  • The drumline, too, is always exceptional.  Their recent achievements include a performance during Super Bowl LII pregame events on Nicollet Mall.
